Case Study #1
Background: Siobhan is the owner of a medium-sized Irish organisation in the tech industry. One of her key challenges is around staff retention. Her attrition rate currently stands at 17%. Exit interviews show that those who leave have found a better opportunity elsewhere. However, it’s not clear the real reason they are leaving.
Goals: Siobhan would like to reduce the attrition rate and retain her top talent.
Approach: Using a combination of internal data, plus a bespoke survey solution, revealed that employees at her organisation are not clear on the values of the organisation and lack a sense of purpose. A programme was devised to identify and bring to life the core values of the organisation, embed them in the hiring process, incorporate them into the rewards, recognition and performance review processes.
Result: Increased engagement, improved productivity as well as decreased attrition.
Case Study #2
Background: Brian works as the MD of a medium-sized organisation. He was reluctant to allow staff work from home, but since Covid, he has had no other option. He has seen how offering a flexible working approach has led to increased productivity, and better engagement from his team. He is conscious that Covid brought with it a philosophy of “we’re in it together” but this is not likely to last.
Goals: Brian would like to ensure this culture of teamwork, camaraderie and collaboration remains in the organisation.
Approach: The key cornerstones of the business were established, by getting a clear understanding of the core values, understanding which needs are currently being satisfied or thwarted, helping managers to have better conversations with their staff – delivering effective feedback, understanding needs and motivations, leading with transparency and vulnerability.
Result: Clarity on what is driving particular outcomes in his business and a clear action-plan on how to maintain this into the future.
See what our clients say about working with Aoife:
“Aoife is an incredibly experienced data analyst with a particular interest in workplace fit and employee experience. Her work in academia and her lived experience throughout her career, provides a solid basis for her work and her business Happier at Work / Empowerment Coaching. Having collaborated with Aoife over the past year on a few projects, her work ethic is exceptional and her ability to decipher the data is amazing. Creatively Aoife has the knack of seeing beyond the obvious and really making the most of your research and data to get the maximum benefit from it. Her work on Imposter Syndrome and breakdown of the dynamics of it are a real revelation to those trying to understand it and their own personal experience of it. I would be happy to recommend Aoife to work with you or your organisation if you are inspired to create a great workplace and ‘happier at work’ employees.”

“I met Aoife earlier this year and had one of my last face to face meetings prior to lockdown. Aoife and I clicked, like me, she has seen the very best and the very worst of business and uses all of her life skills and impressive education packaged together to work with business and individuals alike. TrainedIn engaged Aoife in July this year to present a workshop on ‘How to Overcome Impostor Syndrome’, there were about 50 virtual learners in attendance. It turns out, quite a number of people in attendance suffer from Imposter Syndrome, with Aoife’s content and engaging manner, there was a high level of participation, positivity and sharing on the call. I am going to be working with Aoife again in November this year (fingers crossed) and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend her to anyone, individual or business, she is so authentic and genuinely cares.”
Sorcha Finucane, TrainedIn
“As part of a series of online talks for members of the Local Enterprise Office Dublin City Women in Business Network, Aoife O’Brien of Empowerment Coaching did an excellent talk in May 2020 on How to Stay Motivated during Covid-19 period. The talk was very practical, focusing on what attendees can do to identify what is blocking them and how to clarify their business vision and what steps they can now take. It included a lively five minute breakout session. The feedback from attendees was very positive and I was delighted with the session overall and would be very happy to work with Aoife again. Her wide industry experience and her extensive knowledge and research in the area of workplace fulfillment would make her an asset to any organisation or individual aiming to increase motivation levels.”
Pauline Logan, Dublin City LEO Women in Business Network
“I asked Aoife to host a webinar to a group of about 20 people, consisting mainly of coaches, psychologists, and HR professionals, on the topic of “How to Retain the Right Staff for your Business.” The content was a great mixture of research and first-hand experience, and was delivered in an engaging, interesting way. There were a lot of practical takeaways and participants found it useful. I’d recommend Aoife to facilitate training or deliver a talk as she will share her expertise in engaging way.”
Julie O’Sullivan, Kinch Lyons
“We were delighted to have Aoife present to Network Ireland Dublin on ‘How to Stay Motivated’. It was a frank and open discussion with genuine takeaways that could be immediately applied. Aoife has a wealth of knowledge ranging from how to perform and feel more competent, to pushing your comfort zone and how to feel in control and gain autonomy. I would highly recommend Aoife as a speaker.”
Vivienne Reilly, Network Dublin President, Network Ireland
“Choose Aoife! Aoife delivered an online session for our Social Innovation Hub start-ups in March 2020. It was incredibly insightful and timely (!), learning about the Wheel of Life and understanding how we spend our time now and where we want to spend our time in the future, and one that I am not great at, how to develop habits in these areas! Aoife is a professional, who you feel you have known for years! She developed a friendly rapport almost immediately with our start-ups and has a vast knowledge, which left me curious for more! I would definitely work with her again.”
Fiona Descoteaux, Co-Founder & CEO, Innovate Communities
“Aoife held a workshop about Imposter Syndrome for our Women’s Inclusion Group in EMEA. The workshop was interactive and contained a real plan of action how to deal with and overcome it. The session was very well received and we got a lot of positive feedback from our colleagues. On top of that, Aoife allowed the session to be recorded so we can now include it in our training tool which is also a great benefit. I highly recommend working with Aoife and I look forward to scheduling another session with her next quarter.”
Tanja Hallam, Service Delivery Manager, F5
“Aoife delivered an excellent presentation and workshop on Imposter Syndrome to members of the AbbVie team across Ireland, Europe and the Middle-East. Aoife adapted the format of the workshop to deliver virtually to a large group. The feedback was excellent from all our attendees. Thank you Aoife for all your hard work in delivering an excellent workshop. Looking forward to working with Aoife again in the future.”

“I invited Aoife to speak at a JCI Individual Development event on Imposter Syndrome. She presented an interactive workshop that not only empowered and motivated the audience but also provided practical take aways that we could put into practice immediately. Her open and calm nature had everyone at ease and before long the audience were sharing stories and asking questions. I would highly recommend Aoife as a coach and speaker. She is knowledgeable, grounded and honest with a clear approach. I am really excited about working with her again.”
Gillian Fagan, JCI/ Acora Therapy
“Aoife really made a mark as a Learning Group Guide on our Common Purpose Meridian leadership development programme. She facilitated a group of senior leaders from diverse backgrounds and specialisms to share and support one another to address their leadership challenges using Action Learning techniques. The role of the Learning Group Guide is a challenging one, as she must ensure that participants steer clear of offering advice and instead use open questioning to illuminate a path forward. I would certainly recommend Aoife as a coach or facilitator. I know our participants found her very easy to work with, and her style empowering and intuitive; with 100% rating the experience as good value for time.”
