One of my biggest strengths is “achievement” – getting shit done! If you want something done, I’m the person to do it. I love setting goals, and can easily achieve them without any supervision. I always had ideas in my head as to what I wanted to do, but now that I am starting to write down what I want to achieve, things are really starting to take off…
Where I start to fall down is when I start doing things just for the sake of it, just because it’s on my list. It may no longer be relevant, may no longer serve me, but if it’s on that list, then it must be done. Take reading, for example, something I really enjoy doing. Be it fiction, business books or personal development, I love getting stuck in to a good book. I set myself a target this year of reading 30 books. The most I had ever read in a year up to this point is 24 books. I use Goodreads to keep track of the books I have read, and get a great little buzz when I can mark yet another book as “read”. But somehow over the course of this year, reading has become just another box to tick. The joy comes more from the achievement of finishing a book than from the reading itself. I have already read 39 books this year, and yet still have loads more on the list. The next step is to look at the books I really want to read and take the rest of them off the list, otherwise they’ll get read just to tick the box!
How about you? When has your strength become your weakness?
